Hello! Some good folks in Kentucky found me as a stray and rescued me from life on the streets. They named me Cletus, and because no one adopted me down south they sent me up north with the hopes that I find my forever home in the fine state of Minnesota.

I’m probably around 2 or 3 years old but I don’t really know. I wasn’t fond of the kennel at first, but now I run into it and wait for my treat; in the morning, I sometimes need to be encouraged to come out of it because I’m soooo comfortable in my bed. I love to chase balls, get belly rubs, and go for walks. I am active but not hyper; I love to be with my people but I am okay when they leave me. I had an accident when I first came here but my foster family just didn’t understand me when I told them that I need to go outside at first (maybe it was my Kentucky accent).

My foster mom thinks I may have a little bit of Golden Retriever and German Shepherd in me, but she thinks I’m mostly a hound (without the hound bark!). She says I’m super smart, super sweet, and eager to please.

I really like treats and learn very quickly for them. I know “sit,” “down,” “stay,” “come,” “no,” and now I’m working on “relax.” I even sit and wait for the “okay” before I eat my dinner! Sometimes it seems like forever before I hear that wonderful word, but I will wait for it no matter how hungry I am!  I learned to walk on a gentle leader but now my foster mom is learning how to walk with me without using the gentle leader, which I’m happy about because it kind of annoys me.

When I first met the resident dog, I wasn’t too sure about her. She was too excited and I could tell she wasn’t behaving the way she should – so I told her so! Once we straightened that out, we get along fine. Sometimes I play with her, but mostly we just protect the yard from bunnies, squirrels, and birds together. I’ve also told other dogs as we go on our walks that they aren’t behaving either, but as I learn to trust my foster mom more I am beginning to understand that I don’t need to be concerned about other dogs’ poor behavior. A friend explained it to my foster mom this way: I love rules and it’s my tendency to correct others who are breaking them! It’s true! I do respect the rules once I learn them. I think that’s why she says I’m such a good boy.

I’ve only met a few young children, and I was nice and calm with the nice calm ones. A few of them were a little too wild and they made me nervous, but now that my foster mom understands me better we think that I can learn to relax around them as well.

I am looking for a family who is willing to learn how to help me relax around those naughty dogs and wild kids, someone I can trust to enforce the rules so I can just be a dog. I just know that, for that perfect family, I am the perfect dog.
