“A dog is the only thing on earth that loves you more than he loves himself.” Quote by Josh Billings | ||||
Shepherd / Mixed (medium coat) : : Male : : Young : : Large
Bear is a lab mix, with the possibility of husky. He is a shy boy, who loves to run. He is still a puppy and would love some extra training to learn manners. He loves toys, but will make his own if he doesn’t see one he likes. He will carry shoes around, and will occasionally chew on the laces, but hasn’t caused much damage.
It takes Bear a while to adjust to new people, as he would rather approach them than to have them approach him. He has never shown any sign of aggression. If another dog approaches (goes to) the person first then he will approach, also.Due to shyness, he would be happiest in a home with older children. Since he models the behavior of other dogs, he would love to have a confiden t dog to look up to, but a confident person would be good, too. He is cautious on walks aroundbicycles, and will often stop and hide behind you if he sees one coming. This is improving with each walk. We are working with him to become more confident, and see bikes are not a threat. Bear will often “check in” with the adults in the home, giving “suction cup kisses” when he comes over.
While he is shy and cautious about meeting people, he is happy to meet other dogs. He has met dogs ranging in sizes, and has done well with all of them. He hasn’t met any cats yet, so it is not known if he would be good with them. He will chase squirrels and other small animals, so it is best if he has a fenced in yard or close supervision (leash) when outside. He would do very well with additional obedience training and opportunities to socialize with people and other dogs.
He is not possessive of his food, nor toys. He is potty trained, though has had a few accidents in the first few days at his foster home. He hates kennels/crates He will get anxious and continuously bark and cry, working himself up, if he is left alone in a kennel. He has been loose most nights in the foster home, and does well if he was exercised during the day. He loves to be on the couch, but will stay off it told to. He is still learning to walk nicely on a leash and we are currently using a Gentle Leader as a training collar.
His ideal family would be an active family with older children and a confident dog that he could look up to and play with. Bear is generally easy for his age as long as he gets enough exercise. With the right family, Bear has a great future ahead of him!
