“A dog is the only thing on earth that loves you more than he loves himself.” Quote by Josh Billings | ||||
Terrier / Mixed (medium coat) : : Male : : Young : : Medium
Wren is a 2 year old terrier mix around 35 lbs. who is full of energy and curiosity. He loves to run, hike and play chase with other dogs. He has done well with larger dogs in his foster home and has been ok with the two resident cats as long as they ignore him. He did chase one once, after the cat swatted him in the nose. He seems to be a little too interested in chickens, so probably wouldn’t do well with free-roaming birds. Wren hit a rough patch but he’s coming out of it nicely. He has some anxiety and has had some medical issues. He is slowly building confidence and has amazed us with how comfortable he has become in his foster home. He is finishing up his medical treatment and has been working on the anxiety issues. With some patience and careful attention to cues, this has been very manageable. He has never shown aggression towards humans, and plays well with other dogs most of the time. There have been a couple times where he has become overwhelmed with other dogs. For this reason, he would do best in a home with friendly, more passive dogs. When this happens, a brief time out in a quiet area brings him back to his usual cheerful self. He’s learning how to control this behavior and even puts himself in a time out sometimes! He hasn’t had a lot of experience with children in foster, yet, but he has done well with kids as young as 12 years old. He had some issues in his previous home with very young children. He may do better with older children who understand and can respect his needs. Wren walks well on a leash, heels nicely and never pulls. He goes into his crate on his own and will stay quietly through the night. He is completely housetrained.
He loves rides in the car and on the pontoon (not a big fan of being in the water, but he loves to be on the water) He has been left alone (with other dogs) for up to five hours without issue.
Despite his issues, Wren is an amazing boy. He wants very badly to be a good boy and absolutely loves getting praise when he reacts properly. He loves to be brushed, and literally eats it up when you tell him how handsome he is. Like a lot of guys, he tends to lose “stuff” in his beard, but doesn’t mind a good scrub. With that scruffy, tough guy appearance, the sweetest face, and the most gentle eyes he is impossible to resist!
