Awwww... Geo! What a little honey bear! Geo came to live with us about a week after we took in one of his litter mates and we were surprised by how much smaller than his brother he is. Don't let the size fool ya, though! Geo's got some spunk and isn't afraid to go toe to toe with his bigger, bossier, toy-hogging brother. But when it comes to his human foster family, Geo is still a bit shy. He won't come right up to me unless I am offering a treat. He's definitely not shy when it comes to food. He's actually pretty darn vocal about it sometimes! He still backs up or moves out of the way when I walk by him but, if I do get the opportunity to pick him up, he will happily snuggle up and fall asleep in my lap. I think he would love some one on one time to play fetch with the toys but his jealous brother usually hijacks the game. Little Geo does a pretty good job of keeping up but just isn't as fast and it usually turns into a game of chase and play between the two pups. While it's been great having both of them here, Geo would probably really thrive living separately from his litter mates so he can learn human social cues bond with his human family. An ideal family for Geo would be patient and knowledgeable enough to help him through his shyness and puppy learning curve.

Geo is still discovering the all perks of living in a human pack like belly rubs, squeaky toys, chuck-it, walking on leash, running zoomies in the back yard, cozy blankets to nap on, and treats of course. It has been fun to watch him go from a little scared at first to absolutely lighting up with joy when the shaker ball comes out.  Potty training, learning basic commands, knowing which objects to chew on are also new. We are working on these things. He's a pretty smart dog and very treat motivated so will probably learn quickly.

Geo loves to play, wrestle and run around in the back yard with his brother. Hopefully he will figure out what's appropriate with new dogs once he gets the opportunity for socialization. Wouldn't we all love to socialize again?! I would! So there hasn't been anyone coming over to the house and I can't tell you if he will bark at or how he is going to be when meeting new people. I can tell you that he hasn't barked at my neighbors in their yards on the other side of the fence. He wasn't as at ease as his brother was when they went to the vet. Not sure if it was the new human or the leash he was attached to that he didn't like. He's not used to walking on a leash and tries to wiggle out of it at first but once you get going, he gets the hang of it after a few minutes.

Crate training has not been an issue for Geo at all. Keep the door open and he will go in there on his own to nap. He loves it in there! I've gotten him to go in with a treat in my hand and I say "kennel up." He doesn't make a fuss when I put him in for the night and stays quiet all night long. Even when my teenager comes of from the basement in the middle of the night to make herself a snack. LOL! I have also been utilizing the crate during the day and he keeps quiet most of the time even with me moving around and making noise. Just put a soft blankey in there for him.

Geo is learning that when he rings the bell, the patio door gets opened and he can go outside. Sometimes he barks when he hears the bell if the door doesn't get opened right away. I started this with his brother before Geo came to live with us. Geo doesn't necessarily like the sound of the bell and doesn't ring it himself but he will come running no matter where he is when he hears it. He loves to be outside and probably wouldn't mind laying out in the sun in the deck all day by himself. I do not yet know if the bell is an effective tool for Geo to communicate that he needs to go potty. The potty training is going pretty well as long we stick to the routine which goes something like this:

6:30/7 am - Gets let out of the crate. We immediately go to the patio door, I shake the bells, and he goes out to potty. He will usually pee and poop first thing in the morning. We come right in for a treat and a quiet time. We play in the house a little and he usually crashes again for a short nap until around 9:30 am . Right when he wakes up we go right back out to pee again then come back in and he gets his breakfast. He'll be barking now as I start to fill the food dishes but he doesn't get it until he's quiet. Throughout the day he plays in a fairly contained area of our house where we can supervise him and take him outside to potty every hour or two. By early afternoon he's got a lot of pent up energy and we'll play out side with the chuck it or go for little walk. At this point he will usually pee and have his second poop of the day during his exercise. Around 2:30 or 3 pm, he gets his second meal of the day (about half of what I give him in the morning and at night) then he will play pretty hard for the rest of the afternoon evening until he starts to get hungry again around 7:00 pm. After dinner there's another short burst of energy so we'll play either in the house or out in the yard. He'll usually fall asleep either on our laps or at our feet around 8:30 /9 pm. I wake him up and take him out around 10/10:30 pm and he's really good about going pee right away at this time. He knows because he wants to go back inside where it was warm and go back to sleep! Then it's back inside for "kennel up," a treat, and good night.

Geo is a sweet, fun and treat loving little pup who will no doubt melt your heart when you meet him.
