Hi, my name is Han Solo. I have been told that my foster dad was adamant about
fostering me primarily because of my name (he is a huge Star Wars fan) and, secondarily,
because of my soulful caramel brown eyes. Look at my pictures and you will know. My
foster parents talk about how beautiful my eyes are like all the time.
My foster parents picked me up on a Sunday evening (6/14) after my long journey from
Kentucky to Minnesota. I was shy at first, but I love being petted and, well, they sure
love petting me, too, so it was an awesome match. It was love at first sight. Given just a
few days at my foster home, I have been adjusting well. I love my morning walks with
my foster Mom and Dad. I have pretty good leash manners, but sometimes I like to go
ahead of them and pull my leash. I am working on getting better at that. We have been
walking a few times a day (may be at least an hour walk in a day) and hang out in the
backyard with my tieout. It would be nice to run around in the backyard but a tieout will
be just fine as well. My foster Dad has summers off so I have been going on several
walks a day, which I don’t think is necessary but I think he needs the walk more than I do
(haha).
I am also great at doing all my “business” outside while I go out on my walks. And my
foster parents let me out in the backyard few times a day. I haven’t had any accidents at
all. I sleep on my crate in the family room at night and I don’t mind that. I usually need a
little nudge to go inside and may be get rewarded with my favorite treat but after I am in
there, I just stay there like a really good dog. My foster parents would like to put my crate
in the bedroom but they want to make sure I do not get too attached to them. They are
trying to teach me some independence.
I think I have said I like to be petted but I think it is important to mention it again. I
LOVE to be petted all the time. I am a pretty quiet pup but when I am not being petted, I
like to roll around, pretend like I am sneezing, and then release a sharp noise (you humans,
may call it a bark?). My foster parents have been teaching me some boundaries around
my need to be petted. I am slowly understanding that it is not realistic for them to pet me,
you know all the time. I am learning what “no” means and that even when they are not
petting me, they still love me. Another manner I am learning is not to jump on people to
ask to be petted.
I love all people. I love my foster parents, my foster grandparents, their neighbors and the
neighborhood older kids (8 yrs and above). I haven’t met any little children but I think
due to my need to learn some manners around jumping, I think it is important for my
forever home to be aware of getting some coaching around proper manners. I have only
met one dog like my size and I played with him but I haven’t met any bigger dogs yet but
I pause due to fear if I see them during my walks. I never bark at them; I just sit close to
my foster parents. I am unsure how I will do with other dogs.
I have a lot of great qualities to be a perfect addition to a home that can give me
unconditional love, a safe and stable environment, and did I mention some good amount
of petting? Oh, don’t forget my soulful eyes. Everyone falls for those caramel eye (wink,
wink).
