Meet Josie. Josie is a labrador retriever, born approximately 4/14/2020. She weighs about 20 lbs. Josie is a puppy, very outgoing and anxious to play. She greets then immediately goes into a submissive position. Josie has been exposed to smaller, noisier children and has done fine, once they get used to Josie’s energy. Josie is teething, so chewing on just about everything, including people is in order. She’s not out to take a chunk, just playful nibbling. We give her plenty on rawhide, rubber, squeaky and hard toys. A word of warning – she loves to chew on shoes.
The only thing Josie does not like so far is the vacuum cleaner. She was exposed to fireworks and did fine. She is not alarmed by loud noises at all – motorcycles, slamming doors…etc.
Josie is awfully close to being house-trained. We have confined Josie to our Kitchen and sunroom. We have not had any accidents in over 2 weeks. Josie is on a strict schedule. She eats regularly twice a day and does enjoy an occasional treat. Josie is kennel trained. She goes into the kennel each night without much hesitation. Does not make a sound all night, nor when you greet her in the morning. During the day it is open and Josie will go in to rest or chew on something. With all her energy, we go for walks several times a day. Josie is learning to walk with a leash, sometimes better than others. Josie knows her name and command "come". She also knows to ‘Sit’ for food. During our walks, she has the puppy curiosity and isn’t a fan of being made to follow, nor come back. We have taken Josie to a dog park to let her run free at times and work on commands. We’ve found Josie loves being outdoors. If you’re on the patio or porch, Josie will sit comfortably nearby (close proximity) and play. Josie loves to ride in my truck. I must help her enter and exit, but she is eager to go when she realizes it’s time for a ride. She is simply curious, looking out the window as we ride about to different places. Josie is not fond of water yet. We have introduced water with a small kiddie pool, but she is still a little
reluctant to go in on her own. A work in progress at this point.
