Ginger is the sweetest girl ever. Ginger is a breeder release king charles spaniel born approximately 7/2014) and I have only been fostering her since July 18 so it is hard for me to share her personality with you. At this time she is very quiet and I barely know she is even here. She has barked once or twice. She snores when she sleeps. Now that is the cutest thing ever. The first time my 8-month old puppy heard Ginger snore she didn’t know what was going on. She cocked her head and just stared at Ginger. It was cute. Ginger is not very adventurous yet. She does not explore or move around very much. At this time, she sticks close to one spot. When she is in her kennel she does not move around very much either.
She will potty outside. I do have to carry her out and place her in the grass otherwise she may not venture off my deck. She will follow a distance behind or beside me when we are outside in the grass. The very first night I brought her home she did pee on a pee pad rather than outside. Things were still pretty scary for her, poor thing. But she has continued to potty outside.
She will go into her crate on her own and sees this as her safe spot. When in her crate she squishes herself to the very back and will not move from that spot. I do have a water dish in her crate and she will creep to the water dish to get a drink.
She does have poor teeth and I am feeding her Fresh Pet by hand. She just started eating from a paper towel. I will get her started by hand then put some food on a paper towel and she will eat from that. She will not eat from a bowl or dog food dish yet.
She likes to snuggle in spots where I have been. She’s a spot stealer. I do put her on the couch with me so she isn’t hiding in a corner. She is sensitive to touch. I can pet her head and back just fine. When I touch her front and back shoulder/hip areas she will quiver. I am guessing because she is scared as she does not seem to be in pain. She does tense up when being picked up and will cling to you when carried. She has also discovered belly rubs. At first she will quiver a bit when you touch her but then she relaxes and, I think, is enjoying the belly rub. I do spend time touching her, holding her, picking her up and putting her down.
She is able to go up and down stairs.
She wags her tail when I say her name and look at her. She also wags her tail when my other dogs are near. She will make eye contact. She likes to roll around in the grass.
I believe Ginger is best suited with a family who has at least one other calm, low-key kind of dog. I would not suggest a home with really small children unless they are dog savvy. I believe she would do best in a home with less foot traffic as well until she gets used to her surroundings. Definitely suggest at least one other dog in the home. She does not pay attention to my cats.
