Julie loves tennis balls (OMG! TENNIS BALLS!) They are by far her favorite toy, closely followed by sticks of all sizes. She also likes her rope and teddy bear, although the teddy was ripped immediately, which she immensely enjoyed. She is generally playful and fun. She also loves cheese as a treat and snuggling on the sofa with her favorite human. If allowed, I'm sure she would love to sleep in bed with her humans.
Julie knows sit, down, stay, and come, although the last two need to be retrained by her new fur-ever family. We have been working on stay and leave it, and her recall is getting much better as she starts trusting us more and sees us as her new family. With a few cheese treats and basic training, she'll be doing these for her new fur-ever family in no time.
Julie loves people of all ages and wants to greet everyone we meet on walks. She thinks everyone wants to be her friend. She does well with other dogs and kids of all ages. She is very respectful of her 4 legged sister including her food and toys, and she can patiently wait for a command until she takes her food.  She walks very nicely on the leash until we meet people or other dogs, then she will pull to try and say hello. She is generally quiet but will bark if there is another dog while she is outside in the yard, and of course the UPS driver gets barked at. Being outside in the back yard is also something she enjoys doing to just hang out and watch the neighborhood. She is potty trained and does well in her kennel. Car rides will require some patient training as she does not seem to enjoy them and whines for most of the ride, as well as tries to climb on foster mom's lap. But she will readily jump in, she's just a very nervous passenger.
Julie has a lot of energy and is a typical hound, so on walks her nose is on the ground most of the time and she tries to follow the scent. She absolutely loves long hikes in the woods on a long lead. She is a very fast walker and will pull if you don't keep up. Because of her strength, we have her double leashed still with a harness attached to my body, and a martingale collar to the leash. She is not mean, just wants to meet the other dogs/people and has not learned yet to control that urge and instead be polite and wait. She will definitely love going on long hikes with active people. I could see her learning to run alongside a bike, too, or cross country skiing.
Julie loves checking the countertops for food and will steal food if given the opportunity, as well as go through the garbage. We have been working on that but it will require a serious dose of patience and consistent training from her fur-ever family. She needs clear set boundaries around the kitchen. This is really the only issue we are having with her and it will require positive reinforcement and a calm and patient consequence from the start. She will eagerly learn and try to please if she feels it's to her advantage, so a training style that teaches her just how amazing her new humans are and why (because you got the treats) will get her to eagerly please.
Julie is absolutely stunning and has the softest ears to scratch. If she sheds, we haven't noticed it much as her coat is so short. She readily lets you clip her nails and check her teeth, and will endure a bath, although that one takes a little convincing. She is looking for an active family, preferably with a big fenced in back yard, and a spot on the sofa for naps.
