Winnie arrived here from Arkansas at the end of November with her one newborn puppy. Because Winnie was in mama mode and protective of her puppy, we have only just started to recently see her true personality…which is wonderful! Winnie is a large lap dog that would love nothing more that to lounge on a comfy bed or couch next to you. For the first month Winnie spent most of her time separate from the resident dogs and had a few negative run ins with our crabby, ten-year-old, ten lb. resident dog. Their “fights” looked and sounded worse that they were, and Winnie always seemed remorseful after. She is a sensitive girl and just wants to please you. She has recently started to play with the resident puppy. They love to run around the yard, wrestle and play tug-of-war. Winnie likes to use her paws to get your attention and does jump up. We are working with her on her manners. She also seems to have some separation anxiety and is very verbal and hyper when you get home. Winnie needs to have a harness on when walking. She is strong and is working on her leash manners. She is also a good jumper so a yard with a fence is needed. She does have some guarding with food and some toys. We feed her away from the other dogs. She seems to be getting better with this. Winnie would do best in a home with a well-mannered dog or as the only dog. We are not sure about cats. We don’t know anything about Winnie prior to her arriving in Minnesota so she should go to a home without small children.
