Ginger is the largest of the G-crew and does not mind her independence from her siblings. We often find Ginger on her own in dog bed, taking a snooze, or chewing on toy. She will roughhouse with her siblings or the resident dog, but once she’s ready to lay down, it’s time to lay down. Ginger can sometimes be interested in the cat and other times not even care. Typically, if the cat doesn’t move, she will just look at him, maybe give him a sniff and then move on, but if the cat runs, she gets puppy excited and thinks he wants to play. We are working on making sure she’s not chasing aggressively and that she listens to the cat when he tells her to leave him alone. Ginger is food motivated and that’s helped with leash, recall, and potty training, in addition to basic commands. She knows “sit” well, but we are still working on “down” and “shake.” Given an environment away from her siblings, it won’t take long for her to catch on to those. Ginger does the best with being in the crate. The first week we had the puppies, they all slept together in one big crate. After they had their spay and neuter appointment, we moved them to separate crates that are side-by-side. Ginger is the first to settle down and rarely whines unless she needs to go out, which usually isn’t until morning. Ginger would make a great dog for a growing family. She knows when it’s playtime and when it’s down time. Although we have not had children around her, we have not seen anything that would make us think she would not do well with them. I think she would be very happy following around some kids in a backyard and then coming in for a snooze together.
