Hi! My name is Jewel and I’m about to be 1 year old! People think I was born in November 2020. I’m about 35 pounds. I have a beautiful black coat, sparkling brown eyes, and ears as big as my face! My favorite game is fetch — I could play it forever! I have a lot of energy, so my foster mom has been taking me on two long walks and to a tennis court every day. It would be great to have a big fenced yard and an energetic person or family to keep up with me! I use a harness on walks; it helps to keep me going the right direction and can help when I see other dogs or people. I’m super excited to meet everyone, so we’re working on “off” right now (off the couch, off other people, etc.). Because of this, I probably would do best with grownups or older kids. I’ve never met a cat, but I like to chase squirrels, so I would probably chase a cat if it ran. I’m still young, so sticks and bones are great for giving me something to chew. I don’t like shoes, socks, or couches — those don’t taste good at all! I am okay with other dogs — I always want to meet them unless they growl at me. How rude! I do get excited and want to play and jump on them sometimes so a dog that matches my energy level would be best.
I’m house trained very well. I’ll let you know if I have to go by sitting and staring at you. Sometimes I whine if you aren’t getting the point, because when you gotta go, you gotta go! I’m also mostly kennel-trained. I’ll whine for a few minutes, but I calm down after that. I can sleep in my crate at night or on the floor next to your bed.
I like cuddles and pets, but only if you can tire me out first! If I’m too excited or focused on playing, I probably won’t stop to let you pet me.
My foster mom mostly works from home. I assume this means she wants to hang out with me, but she just stares at a screen instead! I’ll whine for a bit, but if she doesn’t give in I’ll go lay down on my bed and take a nap.
I’m super smart and have picked up every trick my foster mom has taught me in a day or two! I’m food-motivated, and sometimes I’m motivated by the tennis ball, but that can be tough because I’m so focused on the ball, not on learning. I know sit, (lay) down, and shake so far. I also know “where’s the ball?” and I’m learning “bring it to me.”
Car rides aren’t my favorite. I think moving so fast just kind of freaks me out. If you throw a frozen Kong or a bone in the back seat, I’m usually too distracted by that to be scared by the movement. Kitchen foil and plastic bags are also a little scary.
