Fern is a 20lb, four-year-old cavapoo who has taken her time unfurling her personality, but her foster family has loved watching her open up and show her beautiful spirit. She is still quite timid and will shrink back from loud noises and sudden movements, but she has moments of playfulness when she zooms around with her Cavalier foster brother. She is happiest lying at her human's feet during the workday or flopping belly-up next to them on the couch in the evening for scratches and naps (but beware her unpredictable sleep-karate kicks!)
She feels safe in her crate with a nice fluffy bed, but would prefer that the door be left open at night (unless of course you're okay with waking up at 4am when she fancies a quick meander). She's not a fan of the extreme cold, but now that it's warming up a bit, regular potty breaks have been more fruitful! You may need to encourage her to go out and work on her leash training, but she'll get there.
Fern has grown comfortable with following us around and exploring on her own, and just recently learned to jump onto the couch unaided (and grown more keen to spend time up there with us). She gets along fine with other dogs her size, but isn't too keen on rough and tumble play. Small children might be a bit much for her to handle.
Her interest in food has gone from hesitant to excitedly sniffing around the pantry at mealtimes, wagging her tail. We've also found she has lots of interest in puzzle toys with freeze dried treats - and once she trusts you, she'll take those treats from your hand and use her soulful eyes to ask for more!
Fern needs a family that will be patient, kind, and willing to help her learn some of the things she hasn't yet had chance to. Watching her come out of her shell a little more every day has been wonderful. For the right adopter, being part of this beautiful girl's journey might be the most rewarding thing you've ever done.
