“A dog is the only thing on earth that loves you more than he loves himself.” Quote by Josh Billings | ||||

My sponsor named me Forrest after her dog. I’m 3-5 years old and a proud, male, mini Black Tri Australian shepherd with gorgeous blue eyes. Everyone thinks I am adorable and very smart. I learn very quickly. I used to be a breeder aussie. My foster sister is also an aussie and that made me feel very welcome in my foster home since I was immediately comfortable with her. Having another aussie to play with and learn from really helped.
I love an open kennel but I am not fond of a closed kennel since it usually means you are leaving me alone. I like to be with people since I have never been alone. Foster mom tried me in the kennel for a few nights but I was very unhappy. Now I have free run in the house when foster mom is home. We all sleep better on the bed. I taught myself to do steps so I could get up to the bedrooms since my kennel was on the first floor. I am house trained. When I first arrived I had a few accidents with marking in the house so best to keep an eye on me to remind me on my first few days. I have been neutered since then and that might be helping with that. I haven’t met many dogs while in foster but get along with all those I have met. Sometimes I do alert barking when the neighbors come out suddenly and startle me but I am pretty quiet usually. My foster mom thinks it’s a good to bark a few times as an alert. The neighbors are getting much better about saying hi when I let them know I am there. TVs are new to me. I am a love bug. I love to play inside & outside, take naps on the deck, snuggle in the chair, chase tennis balls, tug and carry my stuffed toys. It’s fun to run around the yard and I do a perimeter check every time I go out. I love to go on walks, meet new people & dogs and mark everything in sight. My foster mom keeps saying ‘leave it’ and ‘walk’ so I am figuring out she doesn’t want to stop every 5’. I haven’t really walked on a leash much before. If you don’t have another dog like my foster sister who is mentoring me now, it would be great if we went to dog school so I could learn how to do that better. Yesterday we started a new game called tunnel. I do love a treat. I know lots of words now: sit, lie down, rollover, take, come, tunnel, off, leave it, kennel, stay, break, cross, wait, stop (some of these I know better than others). When I get hungry or need exercise, I am really good at making up my own games. Sometimes I play with my toys. Other times I try to play with my foster mom toys, generally grabbing something like towels from the bathroom, paper from the waste basket or notebooks off a shelf and running away fast. It always works to get foster mom to pay attention. I love tearing up paper but foster mom isn’t so keen.
