Hi, I'm Maui! I am about 2 years old & came from a breeder a few weeks ago. I have lived most of my life in a kennel, with very little interaction with people or animals. Now I am doing great! I know my original name, Gizmo, better than Maui but that's ok cuz I'm a super smart boy & respond well to Come & Down. I have been really enjoying playing with my foster sister dog but she is very passive & never shows dominance. I really prefer being able to play without fear and she chases me around the yard, when I need to get my zoomies out. I LOVE my fenced in yard, as I'm still nervous on leash walks, although I do like going for short walks and exploring the sidewalk. I seem to be very interested in all dogs & people, but I am still nervous and blossoming. I come inside when called & am learning how to hoard all the dog toys in my secret corner under the dining room table. I do approach foster mom for pets. I sleep in my kennel, but am an early riser, cuz I can't wait to join mom on the couch for pets & snuggles. I have finally started exploring the yard by myself, but prefer to follow everyone else around. I’m very curious about the neighbors & starting to approach the fence to say HI. I recently had a temp who had a dog & cat and I did great. The cat was interesting but not a threat. I even crawled into bed with my vacation foster mom, for awesome snuggles.
Mom says: Maui is gaining confidence, but still spooks easily. Moving the curtains, a blanket quickly or closing a squeaky window will scare him, but as he gets more confident, these things are less and less. He tolerates being brushed, and my gut tells me a full shave will be necessary but that will probably be in the future, as strange noises, such as loud tv shows scare him. He sometimes gets nervous & pees a little, but watching his movements & taking him out frequently, we have had no major accidents in the house. Every small bit of progress is so rewarding & makes my heart full! He would thrive with another active dog, who has no reactivity to dogs. As I have observed Maui's progress over 4 weeks, He is becoming the sweetest, easiest dog. He does well in kennel, car, and basically is a pleaser.
