“A dog is the only thing on earth that loves you more than he loves himself.” Quote by Josh Billings | ||||

Forrest Jr (aka Junior/Junie/Juneau) is 45lbs of sweetness, and after a few days is finally starting to come out of his shell. He will require a lot of patience and compassion to help him get past his fear of people. Initially he needed to be carried in/out of the house. After a few days he's come a long way. With the help of some tasty treats (roasted chicken) he is now going in and out on his own, and likes to sleep on his dog bed instead of hiding in the kennel. He is also starting to present a very happy-go-lucky spirit which is wonderful to see! He will require some leash training as he seems very nervous around it. He will also need quite a bit of supervision. He’s a powerful chewer, so make sure shoes, remotes, etc. are put out of reach and redirect him to appropriate chews and toys. And if you need gardening help or a shortcut to China, Junior is your guy since one of his favorite things to do is dig. With continued redirection, I’m sure that’ll become a habit of the past - in just two days, the number of excavations has reduced by about half. This handsome boy is very polite when it comes to his meals and treats, but will have to be watched if you leave something on the counter. He gets along great with the resident dog, which gives a glimpse of the fun, silly boy he really is. He wasn’t too sure about the resident cat at first, but now seems to be more curious about him than anything and so far, hasn’t bothered him. He likes to be outside and lay in the sun, but when inside, the kennel is his safe place. I am currently working with encouraging him to spend more time out of the kennel and explore his environment. Overall with some training and positive reinforcement he will be a wonderful dog.
