Gertie is a 1-year old lab mix. It’s a shame that Gertie’s photos don’t do her justice.  She’s a natural beauty:  fawn with black outlining her ears, muzzle and tail, mimicking eyeliner around her dark brown eyes.  Although she likely has some lab in her, she’s small boned and medium sized at around 35 pounds.  She’s definitely built for running with a high tuck up and a deep chest.  She absolutely LOVES to run and zooms around my back yard to keep it safe from rabbits!  She’s well house-trained, but her signals are subtle:  when she starts walking around and sniffing the floor it’s time to head outside.  She kennels willingly:  she sees it as a safe place, but her favorite safe place is as close to her human as it’s physically possible to get.  She is still occasionally skittish and is fearful of loud noises and new people, but she’s steadily getting better at distinguishing between threatening and unthreatening noises and she’s never expressed her fear as aggression.  She did well with her previous foster’s children, though ideally they’d be older (10 and up) and calmer:  sudden movements and loud noises still frighten her.  She gets along really with my resident dogs, in part because she’s quite content to be beta.  I haven’t tested her with cats.  So, if you’re willing to be patient while she warms up to you, and are looking for an athletic and beautiful companion, who loves to run but also loves to be a couch potato and snuggle with you on the couch, Gertie is the perfect dog for you!
