Tootie is a 2yo, 8lb female Chihuahua-mix dog that looks like and acts like a Whippet because of her body shape and long legs. She is very agile and can leap over tall buildings and shoot through small fences in an instant. She is extremely well behaved, comes immediately when called, stops immediately when you say stop or no. That’s where her knowledge of the 7 most common commands ends.  Playing fetch and return a ball would be a great trick to teach her to burn off some of her energy. She’s gentle, barks rarely and doesn’t bite. She does bark when other dogs bark, when she spies an unusual movement (lately it has been the turtles heading to the lake) or when people come to the door.  She barks in excitement not in viciousness. Tootie is curious when the neighbor’s cat comes for a visit but she doesn’t bark at her either. The cat snarls a little so Tootie walks away.  She has some separation anxiety when the foster is not in her line of sight. I’m teaching her a hand signal to let her know I’m leaving but I’ll be back soon. She’s so smart, she already understands after being here just 5 days. She will escape the fence to come look for me if I forget to signal to her - that’s my fault, not hers.  Sometimes she cries out in a very high pitched squeal when stressed, like when she can’t see me right away.  It’s hilarious to hear such a high pitched sound coming out of this adorable dog’s mouth.  But it’s also sad to know she’s stressed. She’s rides very well in the car. She’s very curious of the outside and wants a high perch so she has a good view out the windows. If she gets tired, she just lies down in her bed in the backseat. She’s not the best walking on a leash but is learning what is expected behavior.  Tootie is very affectionate, wants her neck, belly, and ears scratched often. When given a massage Tootie closes her eyes and turns into a puddle of butter, she loves it.  She likes to wrap her legs around your neck and give lots of kisses.  She loves roaming in the fenced yard but will return to where I am every few ministers for reassurance. A short cuddle, lots of kisses, and she’s ready to go exploring again. She loves being outside lying in the sun on the hottest of days.  With her energy a family with children or an active family would be her favorite place to live.  She has had a few accidents in the house but is great on a planned schedule to get outside. I never pen or crate her because she’s not destructive, she’s playful, entertains herself by sitting at the patio door looking outside. For entertainment, she carries her stuffed toys, one by one, to the kitchen. When that’s accomplished, she takes them to the family room. If all the toys are gone, we go on a search and rescue usually finding them upstairs in bed. She sleeps at the foot of the bed at night. But watch out, by morning she has slowly worked her way up to share a pillow and a cuddle. No children at the foster home but because of her gentle nature, I believe she would adore children. She loves my older yorkie and is gentle with her when they play. Tootie has a charming, lovable personality who deserves a caring, happy family to cherish her. She in return will provide you with years of happiness, giggles at her antics, a bushel of hugs and kisses, and will be a loyal member of your family. Come check her out, she will immediately wiggle herself into your heart the moment you meet her.
