Tortellini is a female lab mix estimated to be around 3 years old and weighing 40 pounds. She was found abandoned in Eastern Kentucky (at a Fazollis, hence the name!) and brought into rescue. Travelling from Kentucky to Minnesota was a bit stressful for her, but Tortellini has shown bravery and resilience every single day! Tortellini is potty and kennel trained! She doesn’t whine when she needs to use the bathroom, so having her on a schedule would be best. She is a quiet girl, we’ve probably heard her bark only once in the several weeks we’ve had her. Tortellini is learning to walk on a leash. She doesn’t pull much and we’re working on proper walking behaviors (staying on one side). Even though she is guessed to be 3 years old, Tortellini is very playful and has some puppy energy. She occasionally likes to nibble on blankets or shoes, but so far she has responded really well to redirection. Due to her history, Tortellini needs positive reinforcement to learn house training. Tortellini is also still learning her name and basic commands. She was initially very timid when we brought her home and she spent most of her time in her kennel. After a few days, Tortellini started to become more comfortable and is now learning to explore and accept affection. She has done VERY well with our resident dogs. She loves to play with them and has a more submissive style. Her favorite way to play is crouching low and spinning in circles. She hasn’t been around cats with us, but she doesn’t appear to have a prey-drive, so I think she could do well with dog-savvy cats. Tortellini likes being on the couch and has started to seek us out for pets and cuddles. We recently had family visit for a weekend and Tortellini was very nice and loving with them after she had a few hours to get comfortable. We haven’t observed Tortellini with kids; however, I think she would do best with older kids because she likes to paw during play and her nails could hurt a young child (we are working on correcting this behavior). We have a fenced-in yard, but still use a lead because Tortellini does not come when called. She has slipped out of her collar a few times when scared, and so we strongly recommend that Tortellini goes to a house with a fenced-in yard, just to ensure that she is safe should she get out of her collar. In her furever home, Tortellini will need a kennel, as she views this as her “safe place” and having it will allow her to properly adjust to a new environment on her own time. We used a blanket and stuffed animal to comfort her, both of which will be provided at adoption. Tortellini will also need a mature, well-adjusted dog in the household to show her the ropes and help her become more confident. We are really SO proud of how far Tortellini has come in a few short weeks. Every day we see more and more of her beautiful and silly personality. If you are patient and willing to help her adjust, Tortellini will be the perfect dog for your household!

Adoption fee includes: Full veterinary exam, alter, dental, prepaid microchip, dewormed, Rabies vaccine, DAPP vaccine, Bordetella vaccine, 4DX , flea/tick and heartworm preventative while in rescue. Adoption fee: $425.00
