“A dog is the only thing on earth that loves you more than he loves himself.” Quote by Josh Billings | ||||

Remington is a handsome young adult male Lab mix who was brought into rescue when he was found as a stray with a gunshot wound in his right shoulder. He received great medical care and is healing very well. He is quickly learning how good the indoor life can be. He appears to be an ivory-colored lab mix with an amazingly soft, thick coat. He has beautiful light beige markings that resemble those of a Husky or Shepherd. In his foster home, Remington has done very well with dogs of all sizes in addition to two resident cats. He is very sweet with every human he has met. We haven’t introduced him to small children yet, but we expect that he will love them, too. He’s had to limit his activity, so we aren’t sure about his natural energy levels, but he seems to be a mellow boy. He loves to snuggle with his people. When he’s tired, he likes to bury his head in our lap, and waits for head pets (he literally melts when we gently stroke his head and ears). He enjoys watching his foster siblings play, and is starting to figure out how to join in. His favorite things so far are to go for walks in the woods, taking rides in the car, and earning treats. He knows the commands “sit”, “down”, “leave it”, “shake” and “come”, but he is so smart (and so treat-motivated) that he should have no problem learning more. Remy has excellent house manners and is completely housetrained. He will let us know when he needs to go outside. He enters his crate on his own and falls asleep, even before we close the door, and remains inside quietly, until we let him out the next morning. He also crates during the day when we need to leave and has been find for up to 9 hours-even with the door wide open or closed. He has been fine when left home, with the other resident dogs. He seems to be trained to stay off furniture, and will instead choose a rug or bed on the floor to lie on. He has learned to stop jumping up on people, and will instead try sitting or standing on his hind legs when he wants attention. He has also learned to walk nicely on the leash. When excited or distracted, he may start to pull but will stop as soon as he is redirected. He listens so well that I'm sure he would learn or unlearn any behavior with a little support. We feel Remi would do well in a variety of homes, with or without other pets. We will update once we have the chance to introduce him to children and once his physical restrictions are lifted.
