KJ is a golden retriever born approx. 3/16/21. He's such a beautiful good natured puppy. He is working on potty training and does well when he’s on a schedule. He sleeps in his kennel great all night and does really well for long stretches during the day (this is for house training purposes, so we’re home, but he has been left in his kennel for an hour or so when we’ve left the house and he didn’t make a peep!) So far he really only makes noises during his daily “down” time when he needs to be let out to potty! KJ is coming out of his shell more and more every day! He is still cautious around new people, but warms up quickly. He likes our kids (10 & 8), and getting pets and hugs from them. He is extremely affectionate with me and comes to me as his “safe” person - I only just met him last Sunday so I think that’s awesome he can learn to trust so quickly! And he especially loves all other dogs and wants to play, play, play! As far as we know he’s not met any cats or other small creatures. KJ is still figuring out that he is safe and loved in this new environment. Even though he is a true lover at heart he will occasionally startle at loud noises or new people. It takes him only a few seconds to recover however, as he is so very much just a curious, happy, lovely puppy through and through! Even when the other dogs communicate that they don’t like what he is doing or want him to give them more space, he takes it in stride and redirects happily to something else. We only started working with the leash on an actual walk for the first time today and he’s picking it up well! He isn’t afraid of it in any way, but gets so excited and happy once we are out that he tends to “dance” and spin a fair bit. He responds good to reinforcement and affection (as well as snacks), so I think he will get the hang of it quickly. He's done OK in the car. He is anxious, but doesn’t show any fear and generally seems to do fine in the car. KJ is still coming out of his shell, but I can see that he is a sweet, energetic, happy puppy! To accommodate house training he’s primarily been in his kennel or supervised in our living room and is doing great - sweet and chill 99% of the time - but he’ll also go for a 45 minute walk and love every minute of it if you’d take him. He’s showing a lot of interest in toys, and does go after them when tossed - he will need your help to learn how to bring them back and play with you! His absolute favorite activity at the moment is having his head and ears scratched! He’ll thank you by using his sweet golden eyes to look deep into yours while he smiles that special smile only Goldens can achieve We haven’t introduced him to water other than a bath - but he tolerated that better than we expected - and wasn’t fazed at all by the new snow on the ground! Bonus - he does appear to be done teething and doesn’t show a lot of interest in chewing!
