Hi, my name is Babe. I live up to my name in more ways than one. First, as you can tell by looking at me, I’m a total babe. And, second, I’m a big baby in that I love to cuddle and be as close as possible – sometimes REALLY close – to my humans at all times. I’m not too big to be a lap dog, am I?

I'm approx. 1 1/2 years old and 74 lbs.stray that day to have my life changed forever when NDLB went on to an Indian reservation to get as many at-risks dogs off the streets. You see, there was an imminent threat to all of us strays, and it could have resulted in an unhappy ending. You can imagine how happy I was to see the wonderful volunteer’s face. I ran up to her with a big smile, and we embraced in a big hug/love session. I’m pleased as heck to be a part of this thing called rescue.

I’m a female Lab mix, approximately two years of age, 74 pounds, strong and confident, playful, really happy (i.e. lots of tail wagging), house trained, kennel trained, and am working on my basic commands and leash training with my foster parents. I am doing great with the four resident dogs (all under 20 pounds), and would love to find a family to call my own. In fact, my foster mom keeps telling me that someone is going to be really lucky to get me. Trust me, she knows an exceptional dog when she sees one.

There are a few things I’ve been getting in a little trouble for: I’m still interested in chewing – and I like wood of any kind. My humans redirect my attention to something I’m allowed to chew on, and I forget all about the wood. (Well, until I get the urge again.) I’m also really good at standing on my hind legs and putting my front paws on tables, counters, dressers, and I can easily snatch anything too close to the edge. I’m working on my manners and boundaries, but it’s not going to get better overnight. Hopefully, you can help me to continue to learn good manners. I gotta say, though, my best grab was a small chunk of cheese. When you meet me, make sure I get a pat on the back for that one. It was my most devious, successful move.

Here are some of the things on my wish list:

-- I’m still learning how big and mighty I actually am, so I’d probably do best with older kids.
-- If I could find a fur friend in my size group to call “brother” or “sister,” that would simply send me over the moon. It’s okay if I’m an only dog, but know that walks, adventures, play time, and stimulation will make me a better companion for you.
-- I can’t stress enough how much I love having a fenced yard. I’m the first one to admit that I‘d like to get out and about, but these people keep telling me there are a lot of dangers out there, and that I’m better off being kept safe and secure. I will jump at the opportunity to go out an open door, which is another reason why it’s best I’m not in a home with children who forget I might be behind them waiting for that open-door opportunity. I can’t help that I just want to be outside enjoying all the smells. I'm supervised very closely in the yard where I'm hanging out now. These people are on to me. They can tell I'm trying to figure out an escape route.
-- Will you always be able to keep a close eye on me, both inside and out? You might be in trouble if you fall asleep on the couch, and I’m not kenneled. I’m curious about anything and everything and know how to sneak off into another part of the house. I usually have free roam of whatever floor my humans are using. But that’s it!
-- I would really like it if you’d let me sleep with you. Once I settle in, you’ll never even know I’m there. (Except that I take up quite a bit of room.) It’s best if you close your door so if I do wake up and jump off the bed, I’ll whine or somehow let you know I need to go out. I usually sleep from about 10:00 p.m. after my last potty of the night to about 6:00 a.m., at which time I’m ready to go out, play for a bit, and will gladly fall back asleep for a couple hours if you want to.

-- It's best for me to play with super-chewer type dogs toys. I can turn a stuffed mallard with a squeaker, for example, into a pile of destruction in less than ten minutes.

I’m thinking I sound pretty close to perfect. With a little bit of work on your part, I’m certain to become the best companion animal you could ever find. Get a spot ready for me! I want to be all yours! And I promise ... I'll immediately win you over with my kindness and beauty!
