Hi there! My name is officially Oliver Twist, but since that's a bit long I also answer to Oliver or Ollie. I have been in my foster home since right before Christmas. I arrived in rescue from a local Indian Reservation after sustaining injuries and needing treatment. It was initially believed I had been hit by a car and had a broken leg. However, after being seen by the vet it was determined that I had an old pelvic fracture on one side and new pelvic fracture on the other side as well as a foreign body in my stomach. I also tested positive for intestinal parasites and a tick borne disease called anaplasmosis. I've been treated for the Anaplasmosis and parasites and doing well. I also had my neuter and stomach surgery to remove that foreign body, which turned out to be a marble! The doctor ordered strict crate rest for my pelvic injuries and healing has been seen on my two sets of recheck x-rays, and hopefully I can continue to recover without surgical intervention. I am your typical long haired Dachsund, the perfect combination of silly, sweet and stubborn. I love people and prefer to be right on your feet and by your side or on your lap at all times. I don't really like it when my people leave my sight and I tend to cry, bark and scratch at the door when this happens. My foster family is working hard to help me deal with these behaviors. I also prefer to sleep in bed with you or on the floor in my dog bed. I don't love my kennel at all and tend to cry, bark, howl, pant and drool when in there. We're working on helping me enjoy my crate more but if you don't want to put me in a kennel that is fine with me. My foster family has two small dogs and I love being around them. I'm not allowed to play at the moment, but I would love to chase those girls around the yard. I also really like trying to explore the yard, go up and down the stairs and jump on and off the furniture, all currently prohibited behaviors on my strict rest plan to heal my injuries. I also haven't been able to try out my obedience or leash walking skills yet. I've been in the car in my kennel a few times, and I tend to whine a bit but don't get carsick or anything. There aren't any kids or cats in my foster home so I'm not sure how I would do with those. I do tend to bark a little and jump on people when they arrive but I warm up quick. My favorite things are food, treats, bones, people, dogs, snuggles and kisses. I am starting to try to play with toys, but can't get too rowdy with them yet. I like to lay on the back of the couch and look out the window to watch what's going on in the neighborhood and alert my family when I see something, but I have to be closely supervised doing so. I am working hard on potty training and do best on a schedule and under close supervision. I wear a belly band in the house as I like to mark my territory, hopefully now that I'm neutered that will get better. I like to play in the snow, but am restricted from doing so for more than a couple minutes at the moment. Sometimes it takes a me a bit outside to do my business as I get distracted. As long as you make sure I potty, I don't go in the house very often anymore. My training will go better and be easier when I don't have so many restrictions to follow. I'm looking for a family that I can snuggle with and other dogs to keep me company. I'm also looking for a family that will have patience with my concerns of being left alone and is willing to teach me all I have left to learn. Also, someone experienced with long short legged dogs that will ensure I am safe and don't injury myself any further would be nice. Since I have a history of eating a marble, someone that will keep small objects out of my reach is also important, so a home with small kids could be challenging it that regard. Can you promise me everything on my wish list? If so, apply to meet me today!
