Hi, my name is Cecilia and my foster momma says I'm the bestest girl.
If I share something personal, will you promise to read my whole bio?
Ok, here it goes ... I'm deaf, but wait, you promised you'd keep reading.
I don't need a family with special training or anything like that. I've got it figured out,
I don't let it define me. I play well with other dogs. However, since I can't hear their barks, sometimes I may need you to let me know when they have had enough play. All I need is a gentle tap on the shoulder to get my attention.
I know, the big fear is I won't hear someone coming, they will surprise me and I'll react badly. I just don't do that. In fact, don't normally get surprised, I have a pretty good spidy sense about who's near me. And I realize touch is either love or someone trying to let me know something important.
I really hope you kept reading, otherwise you missed out on all the awesome things about me, I'm a great cuddles, and I'll keep you way warmer than a little chihuahua. I have a very calm personality. Oh, and want to know the good part about being deaf? Other dogs barking their fool heads off don’t phase me. Funny story, they put me right beside a hound dog that had A LOT to say at a recent adoption event. Didn't bother me one bit, but I can't say the same for the poor human holding my leash. He should have brought ear plugs, he he!
Foster momma here. Wow, Cecilia really is a big love. She gets along well with the dogs in our home. However, occasionally I need to be her 'service human' and let her know the other dogs are signaling they have had enough play. The deaf part really doesn't bother her at all. She knows some hand commands and we are working to fine tune everything. We are completely willing to make sure that her adoptive family knows everything that we were planning to teach her, how we were building up to going about it, and where we left off.
Everyone who has met Cecilia has fallen in love with her. She is the definition of gentle giant. Oh, and a big ham. At a recent adoption event, with all the other chaos going on, she just laid down, rolled over and stretched out, like helloooo, I'm heeere. She gives great big gentle kisses also. I was not able to sit with her at the adoption event but as I walked around and helped with other things she would reposition her body so she could keep tabs on me the entire time. And if I gave her some sort of signal or attention she was alert and ready to “listen.”
Don't let the deaf thing dissuade you. It took us a while to even realize because she is so well adjusted to it. Sometimes we even forget she’s deaf. We know it will take a special person to be able to adopt a deaf dog but in all honesty every dog needs to be communicated with in some way, and we have to learn how to do that. Cecelia already has a great foundation!
Thank you for keeping your word and reading the whole bio. I'd love to talk with you more about this sweet soul!
