Owen is a purebred English Setter born on Christmas Eve of 2020 (a pandemic puppy). He weighs around 40 pounds, which is a bit underweight (the vet says he can get to 50 and still be more than fine) and has the most striking silky orange belton coat (white with bright red ears and spots) and gorgeous feathering on his legs and tail. Owen used to frequently escape from his former owner's house because he knew they didn't have the time for him that he needed and he'd come down to my house to try and stay with me. Eventually, the police, the owner's landlord, and the owner asked if he could just live with me. He's made no escapes since coming to a home with love, affection, instruction, positive reinforcement and redirection, and regular food, water, and schedule. I am GRATEFUL to his former owner who allowed Owen to come to my place and get the time, attention, and vetting that he needed.

Owen loves to give hugs and will stand on his hind legs to give you the sweetest hug I've ever received from a dog.  He KNOWS he's loved now. Despite not receiving a lot of attention or instruction his first year or so, he has quickly shown that he LOVES to learn and WANTS to please! He's learned the joy of having his own kennel space and has learned how to indicate he needs to potty, how to sit, he's learning to shake paws, and his name recall is strong. He also responds well to a redirected "Owen, NO" followed by a good behavior request such as leave it, sit or come. He's been picking up good habits from our resident dogs (who are much smaller than him and he is so gentle with them). His nose is amazing and a family could have some real fun training him in scent work. He also LOVES LOVE LOVES fun feeding toys and Kongs and toys.

Owen loves women all the time. We suspect he was not treated well by some men in his prior home, but has loved all of the ones he's met but one (and that one was a horrible date, so I'm trusting Owen's judgement there). He is a bit nervous if he thinks someone swings their arm or leg, like they might hit him, but only if he doesn't know the person. He's also a little reactive with bigger dogs (and was likely beat up by the other big dog in his old house), but he's had no issues boarding with other dogs around and has been quickly overcoming that fear. Owen is learning to love going on walks, and will require a fenced in yard while he learns the boundaries of his new home.
Owen has been this awesome while not yet being neutered, so the vet, the dogsitters, and I all believe that he'll improve even more after that procedure. Owen will do best in a home that has at least one dog for him to play with. His tail is a lethal weapon and can knock stuff down with one swipe. He will do best with a family that is committed to ONLY training with positive reinforcement and redirection. I think he has great potential for dock diving, agility, or just playing fetch and other games with the family.
