Haven is a playful boy with a big smile. He is approx. 2 years old and weighs 52 lbs. He was a bit timid when he first arrived, not knowing what to do in a house, but has really opened up to show us the sweet, spirited pup he is. He loves to follow his people around, sit at your feet (or maybe in your lap) and will gladly play a little fetch. He’s a curious dog who explores the yard on his own and will grab toys or sticks to toss to himself. At his age he’s an energetic pup who still gets the zoomies and may dig in the yard out of excitement.
He loves to go for walks and benefits from the exercise, although he is still working on walking calmly and not pulling on the leash. Haven gets over excited, and will often lunge on his leash, but not bark, when coming across or meeting other dogs. He gets along with most dogs, but an impromptu meeting with a strange dog is not recommended. He does best with a little bit of time and a slow introduction. Haven has met and played with many other dogs when visiting temporary foster homes and in his current foster home he is living with a husky mix and they do great together. He is a big pup and can push his weight around when playing.
In the house Haven is still learning some manners. If left alone he will surf the counters and will sometimes chew on things he shouldn’t. Haven is getting better every day at listening, he knows how to kennel, he’ll often come when called, sit before he goes in or out of the house and sits for his food. Haven barks at neighbors passing by and isn’t quite sure about new people in the home, barking at them coming in and out of the house, specifically males. Keeping him kenneled and giving him time to get used to their presence before introducing him has worked best. We can take food, treats and toys away from him any time. He does well in a kennel in the car, and happily jumps into his crate. He should not go to a home with cats.
Haven has been a sweetie to have around and brings many smiles to our faces with his shenanigans and playfulness. If you have a calm household and you’re looking for a pup who will give you lots of love - Haven could be the one for you!
