Hi, can we cuddle? Oops, I mean, Hi, I'm Marvel, can we cuddle. Sorry if I am being too forward, poppa keeps telling me I need to slow down when I meet new people. You see, things are pretty awesome right now. I have an inside kennel, momma and poppa, and even a fur brother I get to play with. However, things before NDLB were quite different...guess that's why they call it rescue. See, I spent the first year of my life on a chain in northern Minnesota. So the last few months I've been playing catch-up, learning things most dogs learn when they are little puppies. I'm proud to say I now wait until I get outside to potty. However, we're still working on containing my excitement when I first see someone, like jumping up to say hi and having a small, excited accident. I'm almost 1.5 yrs old and poppa thinks I’ve grown into my paws (whatever that means) and probably won’t get a lot bigger. Poppa calls me a fluffy shepherd, because there is a fluffier dog, like I husky in the mix. And that’s a good thing, since I spent my winter outside. Anyway, enough of the past. I love to snuggle up to you, lean against your leg, roll over for belly rubs, or give you kisses. I walk ok on the leash pretty well most of the time. I do like to explore and sniff at the end of the leash, but I don't pull hard on walks, and when poppa gives me the word I come back to check in with him. I like the other dogs I’ve met and we play well together. I haven’t met the cat yet. They don’t seem to like dogs. Hi, Poppa here. Marvel is one of the sweetest dogs I’ve met. Having lived outside on a chain, she really craves attention, and she is a total love bug. She came to rescue fairly skinny, and we don’t know how consistently she got enough food before rescue. We always feed our fosters in their kennel/with a gate separating them, just as a precaution. One side benefit of that is she now loves to go into her kennel whenever told, and often without being told. She doesn’t like it being separated from us, but once we are out of sight, she feels she has voiced her displeasure at not going with, she quickly stops crying about being “abandoned forever”. She has been in the kennel for 9+ hours some workdays and no accidents in the kennel. Marvel is a smart girl and she is learning fast, doing well at unlearning the bad habits learned in that first lonely year. Even though she has some excited piddles when I first seeing folks, she sleeps in bed with my wife all night does not have accidents. Those excited accidents have gotten much better than they were and I feel they will continue to improve.
