“A dog is the only thing on earth that loves you more than he loves himself.” Quote by Josh Billings | ||||
Boxer / Mixed (short coat) : : Female : : Adult : : Medium
Rhonda is a sweet, adorable Boxer that wants nothing but love and affection. She is thought to be about 3 years old and is very tiny for this breed mix…about 40 pounds. She is medium to low energy and ALWAYS wants to be with her people. Her current foster parents work from home so she spends her days laying by them or following them around because she does not want to ever be alone or abandoned again. She will do best in a house that may have a resident dog and at least one human that is home often. She does not like a kennel at all so her current foster family has not worked on kennel training. Rhonda has multiple dog beds around the house to lay on. At night she sleeps on her bed (on the floor) next to her foster parents. Of course she is potty trained and WOULD sleep through the night, but since her current foster parents do not, she will wake up too. But she is not the one that needs to use the facilities. She will go right back to sleep.
She walks fairly well on a leash and enjoys at least one leisurely walk a day. While Rhonda can be a bit timid, she loves to meet the dogs and people in the neighborhood on her walks. She seems much more secure on a leash than in a wide open space. She loves her walks with her foster dad. However, sometimes she can be afraid of him when they are out in the big back yard and she running free. She will bark and sometimes shake around him. This may be from her past experiences. When this happens, her foster parents put her on her leash and walk her around the yard and she will calm down.
Rhonda has not learned basic commands yet and she thinks any command means “come over to me for pets and love”. That isn’t so bad as she is so sweet and kind. Because she is so kind, she also doesn’t mind the two cats she is living with right now either. However, she would like them better if they would play with her. She has never been destructive or chewed up anything in the house. When left alone for a few hours to see how she would do, there were a few plants by the window table knocked to the ground. In all fairness, that was probably a combination of Rhonda AND the resident cat’s shenanigans. Next time, she will probably just get a bedroom to herself!
