Hey there! My name is Rocket or “Rocket Man” as my mom likes to call me. I'm a Golden Retriever around 1-2 years old. My first year and half of life has been rather difficult, you see I came into rescue covered in scratches, scabs, and hundred of ticks from a commercial breeder. I was scared, confused, and weary of all humans. But with a little patience and a lot of love from my foster family, I have come a long way, and am now ready to find my forever family!

I am what my mom calls “attention starved”. I love following her around and pawing at her leg for ear scratches. I am very lucky, she works from home so I get to spend all day sleeping under her desk on her feet. Well unless Grandma is around and then I hang with her in the kitchen because she likes to give me treats. That being said, I am pretty skittish around other humans, even my grandpa, although I am finally starting to warm up to him. Men are more scary than women and kids are unknown, but I like watching and wagging my tail at them from a distance.

I love other dogs! I want all of them to be my friend, and really, really want to play! One of my foster brothers can get a bit cranky with my playing, and when he gets upset I just flip on my back and show him my tummy. I don’t mean any harm I am just not great with signals. I also have two small dog brothers, so my mom thinks I would be fine with a cat friend. My mom also thinks I would do best in a home with a doggy brother or sister so I can continue to learn from them how to be a dog!

I only marked in the house once and since then understand I need to do that outside. I walk very well on a leash, no pulling unless I get scared of something, and sometimes I like to just stop and lay down in the long grass. I also like to swim! Luckily my foster home is on a lake and I love going in to cool down and even let them give me a few baths (I was pretty stinky when I first got here, which humans seem to think is a bad thing).

I don’t fetch yet but I think I would like to if you are willing to teach me! We are working on Sit, but we haven’t done much training yet because Mom just wants me to learn to be a dog first. Toys are kind of boring, but I really like chewing on bones and treats!

I do NOT like my crate. I will go in there if Mom insists and will even lay quietly at night, but much prefer to sleep next to her bed or under the desk. One time when they left me in the crate when they went to dinner I was able to escape. They have no idea how and I am not telling! Out of the crate I am a good boy and don’t chew up things. I will steal food off the counter if you aren’t paying attention, and my mom says I am a little too interested in the garbage. I do a little barking when left alone, but otherwise I am a pretty quiet dude.

My mom says my only downside is getting into the car. It is very scary and I don’t like it. Once in, I settle down ok after a few minutes. I just want to ride in the front seat next to you but my mom says I am not ready for that yet.

I am a faithful loving boy ready to start the best years of my life. Will that be with you?

Adoption fee includes: Full veterinary exam, alter, prepaid microchip, dewormed, Rabies vaccine, DAPP vaccine, Bordetella vaccine, 4DX, flea/tick and heartworm preventative while in rescue. Adoption fee: $750.00

We are 100% volunteer based, so on occasion it could take more than the standard 24 hours.
