Vera is a young, fluffy Alaskan Malamute born approx. 10/18/21 who came to No Dogs Left Behind after her previous owners moved into a rental with breed restrictions.     Vera did not have much training on arrival but is very food motivated and has been quick to pick up basic obedience commands. She has been introduced to “sit”, “lay down”, and “come” and has been learning to wait at the door and before meals.  She does display some resource guarding with food around the other dogs but is able to eat in the same room with the resident lab without issue.  Vera would do well with a confident canine companion who can handle her playful nature and at times correct her puppy antics.      Vera kennels easily and sleeps in the kennel through the night (7-8 hours) without issue but will require continued crate training during the day as she can be quite vocal.  She is potty trained on a schedule and has only had one accident in her foster house (which occurred while transitioning to different dog food).      Vera has done well on-leash but does get distracted by rabbits and squirrels. She has not been formally tested with cats but given her interest in animals in the yard, it is likely she would chase cats.     Vera has done well with the two resident dogs and enjoys mouthy wrestling rather than fetch.  Vera tires quickly in the summer heat and can often be found enjoying a nap on the cool fireplace tiles or directly in front of the AC vent.     Given her vocal nature and moderate energy demands, Vera would not do well with shared walls and would love a yard to explore.  With her independent nature, Vera would benefit from a consistent leader to progress her skills and experiences in new settings.   Adoption fee includes: Full veterinary exam, alter, prepaid microchip, dewormed, Rabies vaccine, DAPP vaccine, Bordetella vaccine, 4DX , flea/tick and heartworm preventative while in rescue. Adoption fee: $625.00
