Mac is a 5  yo male chihuahua weighing 5.8#. Being new to the cold and snowy winters of Minnesota he is doing exceptionally well. He doesn’t go outside willingly. When outside he walks a few hesitant steps in the snow but mostly stands there shivering. Is he potty trained? Not yet. He’s beginning to get the connection that when the bell rings, the door opens, and he gets praised for going potty outside. He knows that somehow all those things are connected. He’s smart, he’ll catch on soon. Coming back inside, he loves nothing better than being held to get warm. His favorite spot is crawling under a blanket thats right by your side. Once under that blanket he doesn’t make a peep. If he hears a bag rattle or thinks a noise involves food, up pops his head.  A quiet little whine let’s you know, ‘don’t forget me’.

Mac is meek and quiet. Gentle guidance with lots of reassurances are needed because he cowers quickly from harsh words. He only wants to please. I haven’t heard him bark nor does he bite. He does whine when separated from his foster mom. He’s only been here a few days so that should lessen once he feels more secure. He basically ignores the resident dog (yorkie) but closely watches her.  He has started to follow and mimic her which seems to give him confidence to venture away from his safe spot. During his veterinarian   checkup , most of his teeth needed to be extracted . Surprisingly  that hasn’t deterred his love of food or eating.  He also has bad knee  patellas  which limits his running and jumping. He  does marvelously with his limitations. With  weight management and joint supplements the vet says  he should manage nicely.  No cats or children live here to be able to judge his interaction with them. Mac knows no commands like sit or stay. When strangers come in the house he runs to get under his blanket to hide. It’s amazing how quickly he is settling in considering the long way he has come and all the changes he has faced.

Mac is a wonderful but shy little dog perfect for apartment or condo living. Love  bug is a good way to describe his demeanor This is one sweet dog you will easily get attached to.
