Name:  Flax, but we call her Happy

Age:      Birthdate unknown, as she was found as a stray in Tijuana, MX.  The Vet in MN has indicated that she is likely 1 year old by examining her teeth.

Breed:   Chihuahua Mix. She has very distinct markings in tan, light brown and black.

Gender: Female

Size:        9.7 lbs.  Small dog.

Gets along with other dogs:  Her playmate has been a Corgi of the same age as her. She loves to play with dogs. To my knowledge, she has not been exposed to cats.

My neighbor kids are age ranged 6 to 10. She loves to play with them, but she just needs a few minutes of introduction to get to know them before they play.

Crate/Kennel trained:  I kept a crate with a pillow in it for her, but she did not choose to go in it, and always preferred a soft dog bed.

Potty trained:  Not completely, but she continues to work on it. My thought is that she has habits from her time as a stray on the streets. I was introduced to the concept of bells yesterday at a pet store by a dog trainer. I have not used them, but may try them for her.

Her personality:  She is very social, friendly, happy, and loving. She is a very smart dog who is always curious about everything.

She startles easily when she is outside when a bunny or bird crosses her path. She will often bark when she first meets someone (especially a guy).  But she warms up to everyone who pets her.

Flax is a very good “car rider”.  She is always calm in a car. She will just sit on a seat or lay down. She really likes any pup cup offered to her and eats it slowly and carefully.

She loves to sit in the yard and “watch” the birds.  She also likes to go for a walk, and she walks very well on a leash unless she sees a bunny, then she will try to dash after it.

She has a large basket of toys that she carefully picks from when she feels like it is her play time. 2 or 3 times a day she will select toys and then play in a very animated fashion.

Flax tolerates a bath well, and she loves to have her coat brushed, and she loves back and leg massages. Tummy rubs are always welcome too.

Flax seems to have a distinct pattern to her day. She gets up about 8:30am. She will go outside and potty.  Once she comes in, she likes a round of playtime. Then she eats, goes potty and playtime once again. She likes various treats with no pattern to what or when. She will consistently take a nap around 2-3pm. She then plays some more and has a treat or 2.  She likes to spend as much time as possible in the yard. Her time out there is dictated by how much time I must sit on the deck, as I do not let her outside unless I am with her, due to large birds.

She ends her day by simply putting herself to bed at about 9:30 to 9:45pm.  She loves soft comfy pillows and her dog beds. She also has 2 sofas that she will often nap on.

Adoption fee includes: Full veterinary exam, alter, prepaid microchip, dewormed, Rabies vaccine (if age appropriate), Distemper combo vaccine(s) appropriate to age, Bordetella vaccine, 4DX (over 6 months of age), flea/tick and heartworm preventative while in rescue. Adoption fee: $525.00
