“A dog is the only thing on earth that loves you more than he loves himself.” Quote by Josh Billings | ||||
Shepherd / Mixed (medium coat) : : Female : : Adult : : Large
Layla is a German Shepard mix born approximately 1/18/21. She is 65 lbs of intelligence, beauty and love looking for her people and Fur-Ever home. She has a short coat that is a beautiful shiny sleek black. Her short coat very rarely sheds.
Layla is a homebody that is looking for parent(s) that will offer her a consistent schedule. Layla is a medium-energy pup that thrives in the safety of calm and a daily structure. She will be a great companion for people that work from home and have a fenced yard. She doesn't like to be left alone for hours at a time, day after day. Her favorite things to do are lay under her foster parents desks while they work or lay outside in the sunshine. She is excellently trained and follows commands while in the safety of her own environment.
The first 18 months of Layla’s life were not exactly happy. Layla spent it being locked in an apartment with minimal socialization. There was much chaos, loud noises (yelling) and an inconsistent environment. Since being surrendered, Layla has thrived with her foster family in a consistent, loving environment. She is very smart and wants to please, so training her with basic commands has been a breeze for her foster family.
Layla would thrive best as an only dog or with another dog of similar energy. A slow introduction (consisting of a few days of supervised meetings and separation) will be needed to allow her to be trusting of another dog. Once bonded, she does not resource guard food or high value items. She doesn’t mind sharing with a furry sibling provided they are not over energized and chaotic. Layla’s foster family has two cats that she has no real interest in. They often share a bed or couch together.
Layla does very well on car rides and loves to go on errands, weather permitting. However, her foster parents do not take her into stores or unfamiliar areas as she does not feel safe. Feeling unsafe can cause Layla to be quite reactionary by barking, growling and excessive leash pulling in unfamiliar settings.
Layla knows how to walk on a leash and enjoys it, until she meets another dog. Her foster family has been working on this and her reactions and following commands have improved greatly. However, Layla will probably always feel unsafe outside of her own home and yard. So a fenced yard would be best for Layla.
Layla would not do well in a home with children as she is sensitive to lots of loud noises and chaos. She also has a very large, strong tail that is always happily wagging.
