Peggy is a terrier mix thought to be 4 years old. She weighs approximately 11.5 pounds. Peggy is originally from from Tijuana, Mexico where she had been living on the streets until she was rescued by a kind veterinarian. She’s a gentle soul who is ready to be loved by her forever family.

After being blown away by her cuteness, the next thing you may notice about Peggy is that she had her front right leg amputated. Though Peggy only utilizes three legs to walk, she doesn’t seem to notice it herself. She may be a little slower at times, but she can get around independently. Peggy enjoys going on walks and keeps up with her foster mom’s energetic shih tzu mix. She enjoys taking in the sights and smells of the neighborhood!

Peggy is incredibly resilient and adaptive to her new life. It took her about a month, but she now goes up her foster mom’s full flight of stairs on her own! Peggy will also go down the stairs but still asks her foster mom for help sometimes. She just needs a little patience when adapting to a new environment.

Unfortunately, we do not know all of Peggy’s past and what she may have endured living on the streets. What we do know, is that Peggy is an incredibly sweet girl who is adjusting to life as an indoor dog fantastically! Peggy is excellent about sleeping in her crate at night, and will seek it out to relax. She loves snuggly up next to you and loves fuzzy blankets, dog beds and pillows. She will confidently hop on the couch when she wants to snuggle. Peggy does make noise when people leave and is very excited when people come home. She does eventually settle down. Peggy rides in the car in her crate and feels comfortable. Peggy is learning basic commands, but she LOVES food so training should be quite easy.

Peggy has only had a few initial accidents inside the house but she understands to do her business outside. Peggy loves affection from her foster mom and doesn’t mine being held. She is not guarded or defensive about her deformed leg. Peggy is a gentle girl who likes people. She has met one cat and was generally curious but also respectful. A true terrier, Peggy loves to “hunt” squirrels and birds in the yard. She enjoys laying in the yard and watching the wildlife. She’s also perfectly content snuggled up at your feet.

Peggy would thrive as a solo dog getting all the attention, but if she was adopted into a home with other dogs, she would appreciate slow introductions. She can be guarded about her space and  will let other dogs know if she’s uncomfortable. Peggy is most comfortable with dogs of a similar size or lower energy level.

Peggy is looking forward to her new life in Minnesota and meeting her forever family!
