Hi, I’m Lakers, but my foster family calls me Blake for short. I’m about 2 years old (born approximately 10/23/21), and 11 pounds and I came to Minnesota via the streets of Tijuana, Mexico!
I have fully retired from the street dog life and I love being an inside dog. I have worked hard on my potty training. I had a couple weeks where I did some regressing and my foster family used a “belly band” but I learned that I’m expected to go outside. I use a crate when my foster mom leaves. I’m really lucky because she does this “work from home” thing so I don’t use my crate for more than a few hours at a time. I have a pretty high pitched cry after she leaves, but she makes an enrichment mat and plays calming music for me to help me relax. Our understanding downstairs neighbors say I calm down after about 10-15 min.
I live with two dogs, a 10 pound shih tzu mix, and a 20 pound schnauzer. I like my resident sisters and I play with the shih tzu mix— she taught me how great toys are and that you can rip the stuffing out of them! We go on walks together and I am great on a leash. I am not a super vocal dog inside, but I like to bark at the fence with my resident sisters. My foster mom says I have a “high prey drive” and I even caught a bunny once, but she made me let it go. Our neighbor has a cat that goes outside and I’ve met him a few times. I’m mostly curious but will bark at him if he jumps up to a high place away from us dogs.
I like dogs but I’m a little fearful of dogs bigger than 40 pounds. I mostly interact with dogs my size or dogs a little bigger. I like to play, and I enjoy being in a pack. But I would also do well as a solo dog who gets lots of attention!
To be honest, my table manners need some work. I have been known to hop on top of a dining room table and do some “table dancing”. I’ve also snatched some “people food” when I could reach it and no one was looking. I am working on my basic training and I’m getting pretty good at “sit.” However, I am not super gentle taking treats, and I will still show off my kangaroo hops to get food. Because of this, my foster mom thinks I’d do best in a home with no young kids.
I like people, but I’m a little shy when I meet them. I really love my foster mom because she cared for me when I came in from the streets and was skinny, scared, and sick. I am doing very well now, and I am looking for my own person to be forever attached to! My favorite activity is burrowing under a fuzzy blanket and snuggling my foster mom all day while she works. I also love to give her kisses. I love riding in the car and I love being taken places. I may be small, but I’m sturdy, snuggly and overall just a good boy! I can’t wait to meet you!
