Introducing Sweet Sara. Sara is a 2 year old, 8 lb., Havanese recently released from a puppy mill. Everything is a new experience for her, but she is doing very well at learning to be a family member. Sara is currently living with Mom, Dad and two pup siblings. She is very attached to Mom and likes to have her in sight at all times. She gets along well with her pup siblings and is beginning to play with her foster brother. She loves to explore the large back yard with them. She is warming up to Dad, but he is kind of a big scary guy. Sara sleeps quietly in her kennel at night next to Mom's bed. She waits patiently in the morning for Mom to get her out and doesn't make a fuss. Sara isn't a barker, but has joined the other pups chorus when someone comes to the door. She has a soft, lonely, little howl if she is left alone or can't find Mom. Sara is making great progress at walking on leash. She gets excited when it is walk time and comes to get her harness and leash on. She has discovered the fun of checking all the smells and new territory on her walks. Sara is working hard on potty training. Although she doesn't yet let us know she needs to go out, she understands "go potty" and will readily relieve herself outside. We do have an occasional accident in the house, but with a schedule she is doing super. Steps are quite daunting for Sara. She has learned to go up the steps, but going down is still pretty scary. Sara isn't much interested in toys, but chasing a leaf in the wind or the pesky rabbits and squirrels in the back yard is great fun. She does like to get silly with Mom in the house, but is basically a laid back girl. Sara was quite matted when she came to rescue and had to be clipped pretty short. Now her coat is growing back beautifully. She is so soft and loves to have a good pet and massage. She is doing very well at getting her coat brushed and her face washed and those big brown eyes just melt your heart. Sara has learned so much and made such good progress. We can't wait to see what the future brings.
