Clementine is a beautiful silver lab mix, around 2 years old, who came to Minnesota from
Arkansas in order to find her forever home. Clementine loves hanging around her people and
likes snuggling up against you when sitting on the couch and has even tried her hand at being a
lap dog a few times. When meeting new people, Clementine does best if she can have space to
meet them at her own pace but she is easily won over with treats. Clementine is house trained, and kennel trained, although she is not crazy about going in the kennel and will howl a bit at first but then settle down. She has been happy to sleep on the foot of her foster’s bed at night and to find a nice spot on the couch or on the floor of the home office to nap during the day. She knows the commands for ‘sit’ and ‘shake’. Clementine is very food motivated, which is good for training, but she is a counter surfer and a table surfer so you will want to be aware of that. We are working on trying to break her of this habit but it will take time. She has enjoyed the few car rides that she has been on but does try to get into the front seat so we have a barrier to keep her in the back so she can’t help with the driving. Clementine is still young and has a good amount of energy. She loves being outdoors and because of her high prey drive she would do best with a fenced yard where she could wear off some of her energy working diligently to keep it squirrel and rabbit free. The first smile we got from her upon her arrival was after she chased a squirrel along the fence line. Clementine does not appear to be leash reactive toward other dogs but she is quite strong and will pull when walking, especially when she sees squirrels or other such chasing temptations. We are working on teaching better leash walking, and her foster got her a Freedom No Pull Harness as an aid to help which is hers to keep when she goes to her forever home. She is currently living in her foster home with a middle-aged terrier and two senior cats. She generally ignores the cats or gives them a cursory sniff before moving on to more interesting things. The only exception has been when the cats start to play with each other, she wants to join in the fun so she needs to be re-directed. The terrier has taken a little more time to warm up to her but they have gotten to a place of mutual tolerance and he will even let her curl up next to him for brief periods. They do like to bark at squirrels and passing dogs together but he is not interested in playing with her so she might like to have another canine companion with a similar energy level to play with if possible. Do you have a spot in your heart and on your couch for Clementine? If so, she would love to meet you!
