Hi, my name is Red Foreman, but my friends just call me Red, and I am told I am a very sweet boy. They think I am about 3.5 years old, 75 lbs, and a Rhodesian Ridgeback. I came up from Arkansas where I had been living in a shelter a VERY long time- like years long…and I mean people years. But then NDLB got a whiff of me and brought me here to MN to start living life in a home, and I gotta say I am loving it. Shelter life just wasn’t for me- I was a little too shy to get noticed, but in a home setting, I am beginning to shine.
Unlike my That ‘70s Show namesake, I am NOT grumpy, impatient, or hard to please. A little love, a bowl of food, and a good belly rub are about all I need to make me happy. I am also shy and a little skittish around new people, but I warm up fairly quickly for some pets.
I have been very gentle with my foster mom and her friends. I did meet one man that I wasn’t so fond of and barked at him and backed away. I haven’t met any children yet, but they are probably fine. I have been good with my foster dog brothers, although I haven’t tried to interact much or initiate play. I did try that with my mom the other day, so she has hope I will eventually feel comfortable enough to try to play with my brothers as well. I even met some cat,s and they seemed fine too!
My favorite spot is on the couch with you, but I am also a fan of my kennel, it makes me feel safe and I will go right in if you ask and stay quiet and content. After about 4 hours in there during the day while my mom works I sometimes bark and whine to get her attention to let me out, but I am fine in there overnight or when you are gone, I just don’t love not being in the same room as you. My mom has started letting me out some while she works and I usually just lay in her office in case she needs a few pets between her calls.
I did have a few accidents in the house when I first arrived, but I think I have now figured out that I should do that outside. I am a dream on walks, no pulling or barking, I just stay right by your side! The one car ride I had made me a bit nervous, but overall seemed fine.
Anyways, I would love to meet you and get to know you a bit better too! Hope to see you soon.
