Charlie was born into our rescue eight years ago and needed to be returned due to a change in the owner's life.
Hi, I’m Charlie, an 8-year-old gentleman who is very mellow and easygoing. I know how to sit, shake, lie down, wait (stay) and my release word is “okay”. I listen very well when you tell me what to do and I’m very patient. I like car rides and sit nicely wherever I’m instructed to stay. I’m very food motivated and when you’re eating, I’m very interested but if you direct me to lie down on my bed, I will. (And lovingly stare at you.) If you want to reward me, treats are the way to do it! Be sure not to leave any food at my level because I will find it.
I’m completely house and kennel trained. I sleep in my crate because that’s my foster mom’s preference. My previous owner said I slept on my bed in their room just fine. My foster mom works from home but has left me for a few hours at a time here and there. I’m comfy in my crate and just go to sleep without barking. I’m getting used to living in an apartment and hearing the sounds of other people. I have been sporadically reactive while on a leash but it could be because I’m adjusting to a new home and routine. I tugged a bit on walks at first but my foster mom worked with me and I do much better now - especially if I’m wearing a harness instead of just a collar. I would do best in a home without other dogs because, in general, I don’t like to be hassled by more energetic dogs. I have done fine with cats and would do great with kids of any age as I’m extremely gentle. Now that it’s warmer out, I take a 30-minute walk in the afternoon and that’s about as long as I’ll go. I need lots of cheerleading to stay motivated on the walk. I’d rather just go back home and snuggle up for a nap! But the vet said I would be healthier if I weighed 50 pounds instead of 58, so getting regular activity is important. I would make a lovely companion for someone who wants a snuggle buddy!
