I’ve been hearing a lot about “fake news” these days, and let me tell you there’s a lot of “fake news” that has been circulating about guys like me for a long time! For example, dogs my age aren’t “active” or “playful” ~ ha! Well, let me set the record straight: I LOVE my walks and I LOVE to play fetch. I’m just not hyper or obnoxious about it. I’m happy with a short walk and I’m happy with a longer walk. I’m actually quite easy to please. I’ll admit, I can’t walk as long in the hotter weather, and I was just fine not going for a walk at all during that crazy April blizzard. But if you walk me in the cool of the day I am just fine walking a couple of miles ~ in fact, I love it! If you want to test me on my playfulness, just throw the ball for me ~ I am already a fantastic fetcher! I get so excited that I jump in anticipation of your throw. But when you are done, I’m okay with that too. Another bit of “fake news” I’ve heard too often is that dogs who need a new home at my age have bad habits and they can’t be retrained; some actually think, “why else would they be in rescue?” Well, sadly, my owner passed away unexpectedly. But while she was with me she taught me really great things that dogs need to know, like sitting, staying, and even to wait for my food. Rules at my foster home are a little different than the rules were with my last home, but I’m a quick learner! For example, my foster doesn’t allow me to sit on her couch, so I just lay on the floor by her side. She also calls me a “ninja food thief,” but I have learned not to try that anymore with her! (Unsuspecting company is another matter…but that was such a fun party!) I am also learning that when I bark at this house, I need to stop when my foster tells me to stop barking. That’s fine, though, because the longer I am here the more I am getting used to the normal, neighborhood noises and they are becoming less concerning to me. Dogs my age are actually faster learners than puppies because we have a better attention span and already have some life experience behind us.

Really, dogs my age are like a fine wine ~ mellow, sweet, and everything you could ask for, already in one perfect package! I am potty-trained, fine in a kennel and fine left out of the kennel, I know what toys are mine and I don’t chew up what’s not mine. I am good with cats and, though I’m a “vocal greeter,” I am fine once I meet other dogs. I have been around little kids at parks and I enjoy their gentle attention, but my current foster doesn’t have little ones at home to test me on a daily basis and she doesn’t think I would enjoy having my tail or ears pulled on (that just doesn’t sound like too much fun). I get along fine with the resident dog but I really just hang out with her ~ I would much rather play with YOU!

I am looking for a family who appreciates a dog who wants to be with them; a family who enjoys walks, giving belly-rubs, likes to play now and then, and wants a dog who is easy to please. I hope I dispelled some of the fake news you’ve heard, and that you will consider bringing a perfect guy like me home. After all, perfect guys need perfect homes, too!
