“A dog is the only thing on earth that loves you more than he loves himself.” Quote by Josh Billings | ||||
Yellow Labrador Retriever / Mixed (medium coat) : : Male : : Young : : Large
Johnnie is doing much better than when we first got him. He no longer jumps on counters and doesn’t go through the garbage anymore. Johnnie was under-fed and has gained some weight, but looks so much better. When we go for a walk, he does not bolt out the door, but waits for my command on leaving. On a short lead, he stays right by your side, always under control. Without a lead, Johnnie stays within earshot/eyeshot and comes back on command. When Johnnie meets people on a walk, he does not run at them, but perks up, knowing they are there. He is very reserved and seems to respect other walkers space until invited to them. Very unexpected and unusual, but very nice too. Johnnie knows basic commands, sit, come, shake. He plays well with my dogs and has initiated ‘tug-of-war’ with them. Johnnie is very playful. We left out a box of doggie toys, which he loves to dig through and find a new treasure each day. Johnnie does not chew on anything but the rawhide and bones we give him. Johnnie is very affectionate. cuddling, licking, wanting to be rubbed, petted, touched. In fact this might be his most glaring problem. Johnnie does not understand personal space. He is constantly in the face of kids his size or underfoot most of rest the time. It’s not separation anxiety, but more like, He’s not sure what or where to go when there are people around. This has been our biggest challenge – finding him correct boundaries, when all he wants to do is be right with you. We used to crate Johnnie at night and when we’d leave for several hours. This was because he was not house trained. Well, his house training is almost complete. It has been several days with no incidents and we are not putting him in the crate at night anymore. Johnnie comfortably finds a place on the carpet or on our couch in the sunroom at night. He greets us when we get up in the morning and promptly goes outside. Johnnie is a very friendly, lovable dog. Giving and expecting affection. Johnnie’s adoption fee includes: rabies vaccination, DHPP vaccination, de-wormer, 4DX heartworm/tick disease test, neuter, flea and tick preventive, heartworm preventive, pre-paid micro-chip, and a full veterinary exam.
