Abby 1 needs a caretaker or foster! Won't you consider helping her get a new start?
Abby is a 5 y/o yellow lab mix who has been through a lot in her short life as a puppy mill breeder. In spite of it all, she is just so lovable and only wants a furever home where she can chase squirrels all day and bask in the warm sun. Over the past several months, Abby has come a long way with her socialization skills and loves to run at the dog park where she plays with other dogs just like her. And of course, there’s the squirrels!! She walks well on a leash, knows some commands and is house trained—she will let you know when she needs to go outside and will wait patiently. Her favorite place in the house is on the big bed, where she spends hours dreaming of finally catching that elusive squirrel!!! And of course, she is quite the nightly snuggler who, after getting the proper amount of belly rubs, will quietly settle down for the evening, close beside you. As a side note, she sheds surprisingly little and I’ve been amazed at how low maintenance she is!! Abby would do best in a home with a female owner (as most of her abuse was done by men) and she would enjoy a companion dog, properly introduced. She also does really well with cats. She has never been crated in her foster home and I don’t believe she would like it as she spent most of her life in one. Ideally, she would love a big fenced in yard to run. Someone with a little patience in getting Abby acclimated to her new home would be ideal but the effort put forward by her new owner would be paid back richly in affection and companionship.
