Web Image: Rainbow Bridge

There is a bridge connecting Heaven and Earth.  It is called the Rainbow Bridge because of its many splendid colors.  Just this side of Rainbow Bridge there is a land of meadows, hills and valleys with lush, green grass.
When beloved pets die, they are carried to this place.  There is always food and water and warm spring weather.  The old and frail animals are young again. Those who are maimed are made whole again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days gone by.
They are happy and content except for one thing… they each miss their special people who loved them on Earth.  So each day they all run and play together, until the day comes when one suddenly stops playing and looks up!
The nose twitches.  The ears are up!  The eager body quivers, the bright eyes intent… and this one suddenly runs from the group, flying across the green grass.  You have been seen!
And when you and your special friend meet, you take her in your arms and embrace.  Your face is kissed again and again, your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the eyes are your trusting pet.
And at last, you cross the Rainbow Bridge together…
Never again to be apart.

Gage
Gage was adopted from NDLB in July of 2015. He was such a joy to have, always happy and loved to chase his football. Gage crossed the Rainbow Bridge on June 29th, 2017, and will be sorely missed.

Opie AKA Danny
Attached is a picture of Opie (AKA "Danny") our best friend and companion for just over a year. Opie passed on March 6, 2015 as a result of a common Dacshund aliment that left him in pain and paralyzed in the rear hips. Opie was a bouncy little guy that was popular in the neighborhood with all the other dogs, kids and cats he encountered during his beloved walks around our area. He was a great little watch dog with a big voice that warned of other animals he could see entering our yard including turkey, deer, and most of all squirrels. He was pretty easy to train so he would stand at attention for the turkey and deer without making a peep. Opie loved the snow, hated the rain (funny because he enjoyed a good bath), he made friends with out cat, another stray that adopted us during a cold winter before Opie was in the house. He loved to climb under the covers with us and slept with us every night. His other favorite activity was to protect his chew toy (with tail wagging) from the evil dad that came home from work to play the game with him. Opie will be sorely missed and just passed way too soon for such an energetic and active little guy. Even the cat seems to miss the little guy and continues to look for him around every corner. Although we are probably not ready yet, if we get another dog it would be a rescue dog and we could only hope that he/she would warm up to us and be as happy and active as our little Opie. Thank you very much for the opportunity to tell only a small fraction of Opie's story for others who are considering welcoming a rescue dog into their home. Jill and Bob (Mom and Dad)

Ace
Ace will be missed. He came to rescue shortly after we started the rescue in 2011. We found out about 3 months after arriving that he was terminal ill and thought he had only about 6 months to live, well he proved us all wrong and lived to 5/20/2014. However he was not adoptable but loved. Ace lived out his life with a loving family of 3 boys who loved him with no limit. The loss of Ace was not only hard on the boys but as the rescues, as he was the NDLB mascot. He is healthy now and running free with no pain. Good by my squishy face. It has been hard to adjust without you here.

Bernoulli
On May 12, 2014, Bernoulli was put to sleep. She was in pain and was losing the use of her back legs suddenly on Sunday. She has been a great pet, friend, and companion to us for over 16 years. She spent her last days sleeping with her shadow, Dalton, and enjoying fine cuisine. She will be greatly missed. Goodbye my sweet BooBear.
