The name’s Benny… Baby Benny,

Not sure why it’s Baby Benny, because I haven’t seen a bigger Benny around here.  Poppa thinks it must be because I am as cute as a baby.

My favorite thing is to chase my tennis ball, oh,  and to play with my squeaky toys, oh, wait, wait, wait, my most favorite things is to cuddle on my person’s lap. Hey… if you can figure out how I can chase my ball while cuddling on your lap you’d be my hero.

Hi, this is foster poppa.  Wow, where do I start with Benny? Benny is a Cocker Spaniel born December 25, 2019. He loves to play fetch, play with his squeaky toy and roll around on his back on his bed, or outside in the grass.  When he runs and plays he just exudes happiness, from his bouncy run to how his ears “fly” when he runs. What really gets me is how much he loves being close to us. When we are sitting on a chair and call him up, he will jump up in our lap to cuddle. When we are sitting on the floor, he will come lay beside us, rest his head on our leg and drift off to sleep.

He is still working on potty training.  He does well once out of the kennel and playing.  However, when he first gets out of the kennel, his excitement causes him to go.  We are working on this, and we feel confident he will get there.  Being a breeder release, they didn’t spend time training him, so he is learning those things most dogs learn as a puppy.  He also loves his walks and wants to smell everything, so he pulls a little.  However, with a finger snap or whistle and sometimes a gentle tap on the leash he comes right back and checks in with us like a champ.

We have only had the opportunity to have him loose with one other foster dog so far.  That dog joined us after Benny was already here and established, so it was “his room, his bed, etc.”  That dog came over and laid down in Benny’s bed and Benny did not seem to care.  They sniffed each other, but I think he could sense she wasn’t feeling great, because he toned his bouncy energy down for her. He also met a neighbor’s dog that ran up to us while on a walk.  Benny was a perfect gentleman, even though the other dog did not understand the concept of boundaries and personal space.
